Climate Resilience for the Future of Viticulture

Cross-border partnership for the development of sustainable viticultural practices adapted to climate change.

Profile

Project Profile

The VitiClimRoBg Hard project is a cross border initiative dedicated to strengthening the resilience of the viticulture sector in the context of climate change. The partnership brings together research institutions, professional organizations, and economic actors from Romania and Bulgaria, combining complementary expertise in viticulture, agricultural technologies, sustainable development, and regional cooperation.

Through integrated approaches and scientifically validated solutions, the project aims to modernize vineyard management practices, optimize agricultural decision making processes, and establish a collaborative framework that supports the large scale adoption of climate adaptation measures. All activities are designed to generate applicable, transferable, and sustainable results with direct impact on vineyards across the cross border region.

Areas

Our Areas of Action

The project’s activities are structured into two complementary work packages that combine applied research with the development of a functional collaboration network.

WP1 – VitiResearch: Pilot Action for Climate Resilient Viticulture

WP1 represents the technical and experimental component of the project, focused on data generation, solution testing, and evidence based vineyard management. Within this work package:

  • representative vineyard plots are monitored to collect relevant climatic, soil, and phenological data;
  • the effects of climate variability on grapevine development are assessed, and suitable adaptation measures are identified;
  • innovative solutions are evaluated and tested, including digital technologies, agronomic interventions, and ecosystem based measures;
  • technical and scientific materials are produced—reports, analyses, and best practice guidelines—to support knowledge transfer to the viticulture sector.

WP1 provides the scientific foundation needed to develop vineyard practices adapted to current and future climatic conditions.

WP2 – VitiNet: Cross Border Collaborative Network for Climate Adapted Viticulture

WP2 transforms the technical results into learning processes, cooperation mechanisms, and practical adoption at regional level. This work package focuses on:

  • establishing and operationalizing a cross border network connecting viticulturists, experts, professional organizations, and public authorities;
  • facilitating the exchange of data, experience, and best practices between stakeholders in Romania and Bulgaria;
  • organizing training sessions, workshops, and thematic meetings focused on the practical application of climate adaptation solutions;
  • developing an online platform offering educational resources, informative materials, and tools for the viticulture community;
  • implementing communication and awareness activities to increase project visibility and promote sustainable practices.

WP2 ensures the collaborative environment necessary for the solutions validated in WP1 to be adopted, replicated, and integrated into practice across the cross border region.

Vision

Our Vision

By combining applied research with cross border cooperation, the project contributes to:

  • strengthening the economic resilience of vineyard holdings;
  • modernizing agricultural management through innovative solutions;
  • building a professional community capable of responding effectively to climate challenges;
  • protecting and sustainably enhancing the viticultural heritage of Romania and Bulgaria.
